I first want to thank everyone for all of the support you all have shown me over the years whether it be in person, in buying my books, on CNN, with the Bakari Sellers Podcast and now with the Native Land Podcast. I do the work I do because I know that it matters – particularly in a moment like this when so many of the things that we thought we knew and the institutions that we have relied upon are being tested.

That is why I created The Moment. This will be a place where everything that I do, much of what I read, and (almost) everything I think will now live. I am putting everything here at no cost and with no subscription or anything like that because I believe that we are at a place and time in our nation’s history where being clear about what we stand for is as important as it has ever been. The moment we are in requires moral clarity and drawing clear lines between what is right and wrong, what is acceptable, and what we will commit our time and energy to.

The moment also requires that we call power to account – elected, civic, business, cultural, or otherwise. The reality is we are here because of failed leadership, failed institutions, and a lack of courage to do what is right and to do what any given moment requires. A recurring theme you will see in The Moment will be that we will call out leaders that are not meeting moment, as well as those leaders that are because I think it is critical that we support those who are meeting the moment while creating the conditions for change for those that are not.

Finally, the moment requires platforms that are driven by ideas, facts, and thoughtfulness – as opposed to likes, rage baiting, and the algorithms that feed and reinforce the worst of us. The Moment will be a platform for longer-form journalism, original content from me, and engagement with the leaders, journalists, writers, creatives, and influencers who are fighting the good fight and fueling the opposition to the moment we are in that are also providing a positive vision for how we move forward.

The Moment is in the solutions business. We will be intentional about elevating what will help us understand and navigate the moment we are in. Lamenting about where we are as a country, or as a people, or as a culture will not get us to the other side of this moment.

Our values will. Holding power to account will. Highlighting and supporting those that are fighting the right way will. Our ideas and a recommitment to truth and facts will. The moment requires it.
