Rev. Dr. Jamal Bryant joins Bakari Sellers for a conversation about the Black church, Christian nationalism, economic survival, politics and what faith requires beyond Sunday morning.
Bryant breaks down what happened with the Target boycott, why he ultimately stepped away from leading it and where he stands now. He also explains what he calls the “colonization of Christianity,” the historical divide between the Black church and white Christianity in America, and why he believes faith leaders have a responsibility to speak to what is happening outside their pulpits.
Bakari and Bryant also get into the economic realities facing Black families and why New Birth is investing in food distribution, housing, an urban garden and other programs designed to meet practical needs in the community.
Then the conversation gets personal.
Bryant talks about divorce, therapy, blended families, raising daughters and learning to see marriage through his wife's perspective. He also shares the advice that continues to shape how he thinks about family: “Don't win the world for God and lose your home to Satan.”
